Good reed needs a new camera…one was stolen, and the other one came in a cereal box. If we are to continue providing our superb journalistic services, we needs a shutter, holler.
-Another quarter of higher education down, here’s the highlight:

2) Major changes is up to six;

It was recently brought to my attention that there was a head hunter reward to fellow snowboarders who could “poach” one of the remaining FOUR resorts in North America that have policies against snowboarding. Presented by none other than, Burton.
1. Mad River Glen, VT*
2. Deer Valley, UT
3. Alta, UT
4. Taos, NM
To all the 700,000 menace kids out there, I feel bad for the newly created position at each of the following resorts, titled “Burton Poacher Competition Regulator” who is going to have to deal with numerous incidences over the next 3 months of this contest.
You have two sides to the story here.
Side A. Snowboarding has made huge steps over the last 15 years overcoming the gap between skiers and snowboarders. Snowboarding has become socially acceptable at the majority of ski resorts and has become a globally recognized sport. Exactly. SO what makes these resorts so special to set policies keeping snowboarders off the state land. I do not have the answer to this. But apparently Burton does. A marketing campaign by the name of “Sabotage Stupidity or Poaching for Freedom” encouraging kids to wage an all out snow assault on each resort, video it, enter a Burton sponsored contest and then cross their fingers that their creation was good enough to win them a smooth $5k. This being a good thing and hopefully the resorts will decide to change their mind (or should I say ritual) of only allowing skiers on mountain.
Not bad.
Side B. Kids getting arrested. Kids taking things to far. Disturbance of the peace. A bad rep for Burton? (doubt it) As I was recently informed from a fellow co-worker, RedBull does bail athletes out of jail if arrested during a brand building/awareness stunt. Maybe Burton will take on the same reigns. I’m not saying that I wouldn’t participate in this event, but for a company that now partners with HP and WalMart, you would think that they would stay away from such a liability pit like a poaching/breaking rules contest. But I guess that’s what makes snowboarding cool. It’s a rebellion. At least it was in the 80’s.
It is gettin’ to be that time…when a quarters worth of NOT studying and NOT working on term papers starts to seem like a bad idea. But hear this: agoodreed wrote the book on procrastination, and we offer this nugget of wisdom:* you can always do it later.
The Swatch TTR Nokia Air and Style goes down this weekend. The list of riders is insane, and they have been paired up in an elimination style race to the finals. It will be like a sweet roll playing game, where I match my triple reverse swirly underdog cashback revert to your Elfish meteor swarm attack. There will be a live webcast sometime this Saturday, I have know idea when because it is is Germany. Check out ttrworldtour.com, air-style.com, freecaster.tv,
-Atmosphere went to Mt. Hood and got hassled by a ski patroller Dave Urban. Being from the streets, Atmosphere is offering free shit to whoever can slash Mr. Urban (I am going to presume slash means spray him with snow, the alternative seems a little severe, but we will see).
-Snowboarding + fashion models = this and this…

This week in snowboarders who think they are artists:
1. Burton’s Series 13 is teaming up with Suzuki to present the Freeride Design Competition. The Series 13 program allows you to design yer own board graphics for a burton deck. Log on to board-design.com and submit your design. In March 2008 submissions that made it through the prelims will be judged by burton riders, board designers, artists, and other contestants to determine a winner. If you win (you won’t…I will…), you will get your customized Series 13 board, and a brand-new Suzuki Grand Vitara Freeride. Here is the design currently in first place:

you kiddin’ me??? this looks like a gotcha tshirt I had in 3rd grade…picture me rollin’ in a suzuki decked out with some gang symbols in march….yadidamean?
2. Artec Snowboards wants you to design a board graphic that showcases Artec’s “progressive design philosophy and technology”…The winner of the Artec Design Contest 2008 will receive their customized board and a Sony PSP pack…hella nerdy…the deadline is January 7th, 2008 so it can be judged by the team riders and designers.

3. Erin Valverde was recently in town showing her new Float movie…she also showed off some of her artwork, take a gander.
4. Spacecraft and Smith collaborated on the Smith Exclusivo goggle and helmet line. If you have not been to the website yet, I highly recommend that you click yer way over there…it is out of hand. This is further evidence of a) anything that Stefan of Spacecraft does is amazing; and b) insanity can be cool, if you are Spacecraft. To encourage impressionable kids like yerself to explore the site, a full Exclusivo kit is being given away to the first person to find all of the hidden treasures on the exclusivo site. Here is one…
*UPDATE*
Burton is going crazy with all their collabs this year. Here, the fashionistas at Burton are again working with Andy Warhol…Burton: we don’t give a damn if yer dead. (via Highsnobiety)

“Switch” is the story of a young Norsemen who is forced to move with his mom to a small ski town in Norway, and takes up snowboarding in order to win the heart of a snow bunny. Sounds like my story….and we all know how that ended….(lindsay!!!!)
