It was recently brought to my attention that there was a head hunter reward to fellow snowboarders who could “poach” one of the remaining FOUR resorts in North America that have policies against snowboarding. Presented by none other than, Burton.
1. Mad River Glen, VT*
2. Deer Valley, UT
3. Alta, UT
4. Taos, NM
To all the 700,000 menace kids out there, I feel bad for the newly created position at each of the following resorts, titled “Burton Poacher Competition Regulator” who is going to have to deal with numerous incidences over the next 3 months of this contest.
You have two sides to the story here.
Side A. Snowboarding has made huge steps over the last 15 years overcoming the gap between skiers and snowboarders. Snowboarding has become socially acceptable at the majority of ski resorts and has become a globally recognized sport. Exactly. SO what makes these resorts so special to set policies keeping snowboarders off the state land. I do not have the answer to this. But apparently Burton does. A marketing campaign by the name of “Sabotage Stupidity or Poaching for Freedom” encouraging kids to wage an all out snow assault on each resort, video it, enter a Burton sponsored contest and then cross their fingers that their creation was good enough to win them a smooth $5k. This being a good thing and hopefully the resorts will decide to change their mind (or should I say ritual) of only allowing skiers on mountain.
Not bad.
Side B. Kids getting arrested. Kids taking things to far. Disturbance of the peace. A bad rep for Burton? (doubt it) As I was recently informed from a fellow co-worker, RedBull does bail athletes out of jail if arrested during a brand building/awareness stunt. Maybe Burton will take on the same reigns. I’m not saying that I wouldn’t participate in this event, but for a company that now partners with HP and WalMart, you would think that they would stay away from such a liability pit like a poaching/breaking rules contest. But I guess that’s what makes snowboarding cool. It’s a rebellion. At least it was in the 80’s.

For all you hip hop junkies. Peep this cat out if you haven’t already.
jea! It’s Monday here at agoodreed and we’re looking to set some epic records on post quality this week.
I was recently browsing through the clearance DVD’s at my local Best Buy only to stumble upon Brokeback Mountain for $1.99. After making it all the way home I realized that it had a new co-star actor, Mike Akins. Need not be disappointed. Some of you may be familiar with his career, some of you may not. He’s an all-star out of Finland and he’s only a step shy of being a C-list celebrity. Take my word for this one, the scenes are breath taking in this one. 5 out of 5!

Today is Sunday, except it is not because there is no school or work tomorrow. Thanks Vets! Therefore, today is pretty rad. I went skating in some gnarly weather, took some video….maybe a video later…probably not though.
Furthermore, someone I know got some love snowboard-mag.com. Those snowboard-mag guys, what would I do without ‘em??
Instead of answering that, prepare your peepers for Gato Negro….shit is coming upppppppp, yadadaheardme???
To celebrate I ordered myself an upper body torso, compliments of Mr. Draplin, and Mr. Gary. Can’t wait.

you have got to be kidding me…
thanks to Blom over at actionhorse for this one.
Further evidence that people from Utah are insane…in this case, Park City’s marketing guy.
Endeavor snowboards is making lil movies of their team riders doing stuff, like chasing storms. Episode 1 and 2 are online now.

Endeavor has a good thing going…they have been around a couple of years, and Canada’s finest running the show: Max Jenke, Scott Serfas, Randy Ross, Chris Martin, and Rob Dow. They have a rock solid team, and their boards look snappy. The real reason that I am kissing Endeavors ass is because they have a good site. It is how a snowboard site should be: full of content, and various forms of media. Good work boys.

The past week has been rough…my computer has decided to throw in the towel. Just as well, I don’t need him, he was slowing down my journey to international stardom. So I gots a temporary solution, and some catchin’ up to do. In outline form.
- Went to the Backyard Bang in Portland, intending to cook up a little post about it…I forgot camera batteries. Thanks Snowboard Mag for picking up the ball. SLAM DUNK!
-Seeing all the hip Portlanders made me want to watch the airblaster teaser, so I did.
